| Profile |
I have been in private practice as a Naturopath and Herbalist since 1992. Over this time I have developed quite a passion for Herbs and their wonderful healing and regenerative qualities. This passion has led me to being in a position where I now teach herbal medicine at the Australian College of Natural Medicine. I have recently completed further studies – Masters Health Science (Herbal Medicine) through the University of New England in Armidale.
Herbal Medicine is particularly suited to treating many common health problems, even the chronic disorders such as arthritis, asthma, skin disorders and digestive problems, usually respond well. One of the greatest strengths of herbal medicine is the way it can improve the functioning of the immune system, very useful given the demands of our modern lives.
People sometimes feel silly coming along to a Naturopath if they don’t have a specific diagnosis, however, this is certainly not necessary. In fact, many of the clients I see don’t really know what is wrong with them, but are very clear that they don’t feel quite right! Naturopathy is ideally suited to this situation, as quite often the underlying issue may be an exhausted nervous system, a disordered digestive system, hormonal imbalance, or other underlying causes.
I use Iridology as part of the initial assessment to gain an insight into the overall functioning of the major body systems, and their inter-relationships. Initially, I used a magnifying glass and torch, but in recent years have been able to take a digital photo, and within minutes display it on the screen of my computer so I can show you areas of interest. This also allows easier examination as the eye is displayed the size of the computer screen.
It is usually necessary to make some changes to your diet, however, I endeavour to make these as manageable as possible, and always in consultation with what you think you can manage. Often though if you are particularly run down, we may not do this at the initial consultation, but wait until you feel more energised, from the initial treatment.
I have a particular interest in treating clients who are HIV positive. My focus here is on maintaining quality of life, and potentially extending the wellness period. However, I also believe that Naturopathy and Herbal medicine is very well suited to assist with some ot the side effects of combination antiretroviral therapy. |
